Naomi Madsen
Naomi Madsen has a strong background in the human services field, including counselling, domestic violence, child protection, suicide intervention and mental health. She has particular expertise in supervision and management of volunteers, together with strengths in development, delivery and assessment of training.
Naomi currently works at Flinders University, providing skills training for supervisors, and has been delivering Mental Health First Aid since 2005, including three years of co-ordinating mental health and suicide prevention education programs. She is accredited to deliver the adult, youth and Aboriginal versions of the training.
Naomi’s qualifications include:
- Mental Health First Aid (Adult, Youth and Aboriginal) Master Instructor*;
- Certificate IV in Workplace Assessment and Training;
- Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in psychology and English;
- Accredited Mandated Notification trainer; and
- National Police Certificate.
One of the first Master Instructors in South Australia, Naomi has delivered Mental Health First Aid to community groups across South Australia and has been privileged to share in the journey that individuals make towards a better understanding of mental health issues through the program.
Naomi is passionate about ethical approaches to training, social justice, cultural respect and advocacy. Her own experiences with mental health issues inform her training methods which are responsive and dynamic, and demonstrate a strong commitment to ensuring groups have the best possible opportunity to benefit from learning Mental Health First Aid.
* The Master Instructor designation is awarded on the successful delivery of 30 complete Mental Health First Aid programs.
