Mandy Ahmat

Mandy Ahmat is a proud Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander woman born and raised in Darwin, NT. Her family links on her grandmother’s side are from Roper River— Ngukurr community and the language spoken is Ngalakan. Her grandfather is a west-central Torres Strait Islander, born on Badu Island. Her grandparents were married in Darwin where her grandmother grew up after she was taken from her country and brought up by nuns in a Darwin convent. Mandy retains strong family links to Darwin and Alice Springs where her two sons were born.

Mandy’s vast experience across Aboriginal communities in both South Australia and the Northern Territory provides her with unique insight into Aboriginal mental health issues.

Mandy delivers the Aboriginal Mental Health First Aid training for MindSavers and holds the following qualifications:

  • Mental Health First Aid (Aboriginal) instructor accreditation;
  • Advanced Diploma of Community Service Management;
  • Diploma of Employment Services;
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and
  • National Police Certificate

Mandy works closely with Aboriginal communities in both SA and the NT and is passionate about teaching mental health literacy to the Aboriginal community.
