14 hour Course

The Aboriginal & TSI Mental Health First Aid training program recognises that central to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ cultural, emotional, physical and social wellbeing lies deeply rooted spirituality.

When the delicate balance of all those precious aspects of life are out of balance, mental health and wellbeing problems can arise.

Aboriginal Mental and Emotional Pain

  • The MindSavers team acknowledges and respects Aboriginal peoples’ cultural and spiritual links to the land. Those who deliver the Aboriginal Mental Health First Aid 14 hour course on behalf of MindSavers are, without exception, Aboriginal people.
  • MindSavers upholds the philosophy that only Aboriginal people can truly, deeply, and sincerely understand the personal and cultural pain that has been inflicted upon their race since colonisation of Australia.
  • That devastating past has left Aboriginal people particularly vulnerable to mental and emotional pain, for cultural memory never forgets. Aboriginal people today, whether they be urban or outback, continue to confront daily hurts and the cultural pain of yesteryear.

The Aboriginal & TSI Mental Health First Aid course was written by Aboriginal people in collaboration with the Orygen Research Centre, and its delivery across Australia holds in its heart the seeds of hope for mental health wellbeing for Aboriginal people.
